Those of us living in the US take for granted the educational programs and services availble to individuals with disabilities.  Sadly, this is not the case in many parts of the world, including Guatemala.  The focus of my ministry will be working with those who are poor and disabled, who receive little, if any, medical care, and virtually no support services.  I will do this through three primary activities:

Communication Systems
Numerous children in Guatemala experience physical, oral/motor and cognitive disabilities which interfere with their ability to communicate efficiently and effectively.  Using line drawing symbols and communication boards and devices, Pat will work with families and institutions to empower these little ones to ask for what they want and need. 

Educational Consultation
Children with disabilities are often not allowed to attend public schools in Guatemala.  Pat will give support to private teachers working these children in cooperation with missionaries currently serving in the area.

Supporting Medical Care
Many of the poor and disabled in Guatemala have never seen a doctor.  Accurate diagnosis and adequate care are essential to their lives.  Pat will assist parents trying to find medical help for their child.
